Which Data Laws Apply to a Texas Organization

Which of the many data laws that touch a Texas business actually reach yours, and in what order to read them.

LG01 · Hub: Texas Privacy Statutes · Intended reader: General counsel, privacy leads, and business operators

Scope

A decision tree that walks a Texas organization through which data laws reach it, built around the organization, the people whose data it holds, the data types and purposes, locations, sector, exemptions, and contracts. It separates legal requirement from governance recommendation at every fork. Texas relevance: Texas has no single comprehensive code; obligations arrive from the TDPSA, the DTPA, CUBI, chapter 510 brokers law, the SCOPE Act and SB 2420, sector regimes, and federal law, so Texas operators need an ordering device rather than a statute list.
